Winning
The first player to reach 30 points wins the game.
If two or more players reach 30 in the same round, the higher score wins. If still tied, play one additional round.
House variant: some groups play to 21 or 40 — agree before the first deal.
Edge cases and common disputes
The situations that come up mid-game and stall the table.
Can I win too many tricks?
Yes. Tricks above your call score nothing, and if you take double your call or more you lose your call as a penalty instead of scoring it. Call 2 and win 4 → −2. Call 3 and win 6 → −3. The rule exists so that calling the minimum every round is not a risk-free strategy.
Does the double bonus need an exact hit?
No. A call of 6 or more scores double if you meet or exceed it. Call 6 and win 7 → +12. The extra trick adds nothing but does not cost you the bonus. The bonus does not apply in Round 1, which is played open with no bidding.
Must I trump when I cannot follow suit?
No. If you are void in the led suit you may play any card — a spade or a discard. Trumping is always optional here. Some house rules make it compulsory; ours do not.
When can spades be led?
Only after a spade has been played on an earlier trick. Until spades are "broken" you may not lead one, though you may always play a spade when you are void in the suit that was led — which is what breaks them.
Can I change my call after hearing the others?
No. A call is final once spoken. Bidding proceeds in turn, so players who bid later have more information than players who bid early — that positional advantage is part of the game.
What if a player disconnects mid-round?
They have 30 seconds to reconnect and an AI plays their hand meanwhile. If they return within the window they resume with their score and call intact. If they do not, the AI finishes the game in their seat.
Can my score go below zero?
Yes, and it commonly does. A player on 3 points who misses a call of 6 drops to −3. There is no floor, and negative totals are a normal part of a competitive game.
